Sponsor a Child's Family

Tawan is a 1 year old toddler who is anemic and has severe urinary tract infection. Tawan lives with his parents and 5 siblings in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in a house where there is only one room with a bed, an old stove and a water filter. There is no kitchen or bathroom. The whole family lives with the equivalent of US$120 per month.

Based on a holistic concept of health, in which the socio-economic environment plays an important role in people’s health, Associação Saúde Criança Renascer’s (“Renascer”) goal is to restructure the families of the children released from Hospital da Lagoa, in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil, by giving them a foundation for improving and then sustaining a better quality of life. A Family Action Plan covering the areas of Health, Income, Housing, Education and Citizenship is developed and constantly reevaluated.

Tawan’s family was accepted into Renascer’s program in February 2007. A family action plan has been developed for them and they have started receiving support in the five areas mentioned above: health, income, housing, education and citizenship. Tawan’s family is just one of the 250 families assisted by Renascer every month. Renascer's cost with each family is US$300 per month

To ensure that each child and his/her family receives the assistance required, one family can have as many sponsors as needed. Your sponsorship will provide a family with:
• Medicine
• Food
• Improved housing
• Professional workshops
• Social, psychological, legal and nutritional support

Once you enroll we will send you information about the child´s health and his/her family development twice a year. You will also have the option of having your name posted on our website as an important supporter of Renascer.

In the United States, Renascer is represented by Friends of Renascer - FoR, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that helps promoting and fundraising for Renascer in Brazil. FoR was established in 2000 in New York City as the center for reference and dissemination of Renascer’s model in the United States.

Due to its structured and integrated approach and results, Renascer has won several awards including the Skoll Foundation Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2006; the UBS Visionaries Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2006, and the Global Development Network Award as the most innovative social project in the world in 2002, among others.
